A 7 card game, Texas Holdem is considered to be the most popular and exciting variation of all poker games. Once you have learnt the basic Poker Jargon and rules you'll find the game frustratingly brilliant.

Each of the players are dealt two cards, these are referred to as pocket cards or hole cards. The dealer will then deal, face up for everyone to see; 3 cards referred to as community cards . By making a combination of your pocket cards (the cards that only you can see) and the community cards, you then form the best poker hand that you can.

After that two more community cards are dealt face up on the table. After every round of new community cards each players can place a bet, forcing the other players to fold their own cards (give up).

The Step By Step Guide To Texas Holdem

In Texas Hold'em, betting always begins with the first active player to the left of the dealer button.

  • The game begins with the posting of the small blind (A compulsory bet before the initial deal), by the person to the left of the dealer.
  • The player to the immediate left posts the big blind to start the game.
  • Each of the players are dealt two cards, face down, at the start of the game. Commonly known as the pocket cards.
  • Once the pocket cards have been dealt a round of betting begins starting with the person to the left of the dealer. In a $10/$20 game, each bet in this round is $10.
  • Three of the community cards are dealt, face up. These are called the flop.
  • Then there is round of betting for the second time. This round will be at the lower stakes level.
  • A fourth card, is dealt face up.
  • Then another round of betting but the stake will be higher. Using the $10/$20 game example, all bets are now $20
  • The 5th and final card is then dealt, this is called the river.
  • This is now the last round of betting and the stakes will be at a highest level.
  • Beginning with the last player to make their bet each of the players show or muck their hands. This is called the Showdown.
